I haven’t read the book, but my friends and I have planned a trip to go down there and I promise it has nothing to do with being an oppressor or seeing how it feels to be a white man.
I do have a homegirl whose father went down to Brazil (60+) and he related to my homeboy (27) his sexual exploits to him and talked about how beautiful the women are. I can’t front though, one of my other homeboys travels there frequently and he relayed a story to me about how he took this Brasiliana and her son out to eat for pizza and homegirl was like, “Wow, my son will be so happy. He hasn’t had pizza in 2 years.” He also sends like $50 dollars a month down to her and she lives well off of that.
So, yea no question, there are some advantages to going down there if you want to feel more affluent (relatively anyway) and feel how affluent men in the U.S. are treated if you’re affluence doesn’t happen to transcend continents.
