Speaking of this morning.

I have BEEEEEN to test something out that I read in news papers
but never did here.

You know how you see a number, then it is followed by an explanation.

Well, I am going to do a version of that here.

    Good Morning – KanYe West or Beautiful Morning – Little Brother
    ================
    Those songs are for when I awake in the morning, always feeling good, if only because I woke up.

    Gotta Get Up (Another Day) – Jill Scott
    ================
    Some days I just want to stay home and play some Ms. Pac-Man, and listen to The Roots and chill.

    Oh My God – Jay-Z
    ================
    When I walk into work…. I just get that feeling that I can pretty much set my work day off right.

    C.R.E.A.M. – Wu-Tang Clan
    ================
    Payday. ‘Nuff said.

    37 – My life always revolves around 3 and 7 or 37, multiples of 3, multiples of 7, it’s just there.

    5 (on average) – Number of hours I sleep.

    19 to 20 – Number of hours I’m awake. (Gotta keep moving, so when I hit 33, I can make money in my sleep….)

    Number of times I went over budget last week? How many days is it in a week? 7.

    And yes, you all up in my BI. But it’s all good.

    hmmm…depends on the day…

    i used to wake up with UNITY (the Queen) in my head…it was my theme song for a while.

    NY State of Mind ~ when i’d have to get up early & hit that A train.

    Brown Skin Lady ~ usually on the weekend, cuz i can relax.

    G-Thang ~ used to wake up hearing it mid-90s.

    too many others…interesting question…

    numbers…
    2 the number of years my little one has been alive (as of yesterday!)

    =LB – Beautiful Morning
    =Common – BE (intro)
    Wow. Got the alarm clock with CD player and Little Brother’s been a staple. The intro to BE is a good one too. That bass is always nice to wake up to.

    =Mos & Kweli – Little Brother
    During those long days at work/school, that moment after you try to guess what time it is(from the last time you checked) then only to find out of course, you’re way ahead by an hour.

    =Dead Prez – Hip Hop
    Throughout school teams or pick up games, regardless of the sport. If there was one song that was constantly on the playlist, it’s this. M1’s first verse always turns my anxiousness into concentrated focus. stic always hammers it home.

    Warren G’s “Regulate the G Funk era” came on in my head this morning, kept wondering why amongst the “classic album” argument this album gets overlooked….I ended up listening to Wayans Phase II however..in the shower.

    *Stillmatic Intro (Nas)* – When I’m in the zone and I feel like what I’m about to pen is and will be the greatest lyric ever..

    *A word from our sponsors (Von Pea of Tanya Morgan & Phone of LB)* – If I’m about to step out the crib just to go out and have some fun..

    *The People (Common)* – When I’m in deep thought about the state of things, what my purpose in life is..

    *She lives in my lap (Andre 3000)* – Romance..

    *U, baby (Soulbrotha)* – re: romance..

    *Gotta be startin’ something (MJ)* – At weddings, whenever I’m feeling crunk this always gets me storrrted..

    On the real, I could write an essay on how important Death Certificate is to music history. Personally I think it’s the best hip hop album of all time, and I have no problems debating anybody about it.

    Cube earned his right to do whatever the F he wants after he dropped that gem. I dont care if he makes “Are we there yet?” part 74. Death Certificate covers all that.

    As for songs that stay on repeat in my head:

    Jay-Z – U Don’t know
    On the business tip, Jay-Z is the most influential and spectacular rapper of all time. I don’t see how you can listen to this song and NOT be inspired….. “Mama aint raised no fool….put me anywhere on gods green earth… I’ll triple my worth… muthafucka”

  13. sportaphile says

    lol, but am I wrong though?

    Jay-Z isn’t even my favorite rapper. I’m from Oakland, so 2pac will never be touched on that front… but as far as business you can’t front on Jay.
