Welcome to the Internet, Where BET, BOYCOTTS AND BLOG’S CONVERGE.

BET plans on airing a show based on the website
HOT GHETTO MESS.com. However that sh*t might be
deaded by the end of the week
if the sista at What About
Our Daughters has anything to do
with it.

Yall know me. I enjoy some misogyny drenched pop
culture as much as the jawn. You noticed that I said pop culture
and
not Hip Hop.

It makes being a feminist very interesting.

However, any person that wants to hold a corporation
accountable, or hold a public figure accountable is
all right with me.

Look at her get gully with the class analysis:

Reginald Hudlin clearly thinks that working class Black people are trash or pawns for whatever bizarre social experiment BET wants to conduct on us (THIS TIME). Jamilla Donaldson has a law school education and is using her training and experience to torment poor people, children, and victims of internet bullying. These are two Black people who have been given every privilege society has to offer and they are using that to exploit working class Black people who don’t have the defenses to protect themselves. Hudlin and Donaldson can use their privilege to buffer themselves from their decisions.

I recommend that she and a few family members
and support folks buy some
Viacom shares, which
are trading at $41 today, so that
she can have a voice at the annual shareholder meeting.

This summer, I am being trained to write proxy resolutions and I
offer my services to her,
for a fee of course.

I have never been to the HGM site before, until today.
I found something very intersting there.
The publisher of the site appears to really care about Black people.
Look what she writes:

So again, I ask what are we doing to help each other because as Farrakhan said recently, ?the days of the benevolent white man are over.? Power concedes nothing. All we got is us people. We can?t afford to live like we?re living. And I will say again, to all of you who are angry at me for airing our dirty laundry?good I?m glad you?re angry, now maybe collectively, including me, we?ll be forced to finally go wash it. This site is the beginning, the ending is up to us.

Peace.

The site is a weird mixture of Black Scandalousness on a
public platform, meets tough love and accountability.

In reading these words I wondered if it was a thinly
veiled attempt to rebuff the heat served by Ms. What
About our Daughters?

I don’t know.

However, this brings me back to Mr. Hudlin.

I have only one question for him
and it is the FIRST QUESTION THAT I ASK WHEN
CONDUCTING A POWER ANALYSIS:
WHOSE INTEREST ARE BEING SERVED BY ALLOWING
THE SHOW TO APPEAR ON TELEVISION?

=========
=========

Do you think Ms. What About our daughters
has an ax to grind?

What do you think it will take to get
her fight some traction?

Should Reginald listen to her?

Why or why not?

Her intentions and what she has said thus far are par excellence. The problem now lies with the rallying for support to ax the show. At the end of the day Viacom will do what Viacom wants, notice I didn’t say BET.

If ppl refuse to watch the show, ratings will plummet and they’ll be forced to go back to the drawing board.

What I think should be done at this point is black folk getting together to churn out quality programming. I’m surprised with all the multimillionaires we got this hasn’t been done yet. Good ol’ boy network that strong in the media? Or can’t we just do this on our own at all?

    I have the answer.

Whose interest’s are being served by BET’s programming consisting of what it is?

  3. Perfect Storm says

This always does seem to become a class issue. Whose interests are being served, besides those who make $$ from it? I’m not sure, but maybe the people we call the “upper-class Blacks”.

If you’re a Black person that has had all the benefits of “privilege”, like Ms.-What-About-Our-Daughters talks about, maybe it’s in your best interest to separate yourself from the “other Negroes” to keep your “favorable” position.

If Mr. or Ms. Upper Class Black is at the water cooler at their corporate job, they can be like “those people on HGM don’t rep us!” to gain favor with the non-black co-workers. Then it can be a guilt-absolving win-win for the co-workers because they can be like “yeah, we co-sign, those Blackies are stupid, but we know YOU’RE not like ’em. Your kids can still play with ours.”

This is when they can claim that some of their best friends are Black.

    Just a thought

Mainstream media perpetuating stereotypes of Black people. For shows like HGM, the networks don’t anticipate these shows lasting long enough to reach syndication or even a full season. Thats why shows like these are summer shows or midseason replacements. As long as the ad revenue and some sort of rating is there, so will the show. IF people revolt and protest the show, they can run the whole arc they had planned before being forced to take the show off.

So of course Hudlin should and probably will respond. Because by the time it all boils over the show will already be over.

Advertisers, stockholders, and then the public(in that order)determine whether a questionable show stays on the air

Being a working producer in television who takes pride in the fact that i’ve not worked with BET at all I can only say this. Their reputation in the industry is sub-par.

It appears as though they are looking to capitalize off the controversy.

The fact that one of their own created the website and basically focused it until they decided to develop it into a tv show.

Pointing fingers and laughing at people has never been nice and that’s why I don’t play with them!

After watching the Cupid Shuffle video on bet I either turned the station or turned the tv off…can’t remember

during the bet awards I saw the promotion for their new shows and thought…shitty mess

I wonder how different Black folks reactions would be if any of these shows were scheduled to air on any other channel besides bet….oh and tvone?

oh and deezy…on dat earlier ish…i kno ;(
it was good while it lasted…sheed i’m sounding like viacom in a few weeks lol

@Mdot: this is true..I think my thing is when rich bourgeouis complain, they should be or should’ve been putting their money where their mouth is literally and curtailing things like this. Where are the Earl Graves? The Wynton Marsalis’s? The Stanley Crocuch’s? Why aren’t they talking about these kinds of things?

But hip hop takes the blame for all this?

Of course at the end of the day money talks and the bullcrap is allowed to walk.

This is the problem with capitalism, make money at every expense.

Actually. I want it on CBS.
    That would be DOPE.
    More exposure.
    More accountability.

1.Hmmm ax to grind is curious term In this instance.. I would say yes tho in the sense of being a Black women and being heated at how her image is projected through out the world?she has ?A right to be hostile!!!!?

    2. I haven?t checked up all the way?but I kinda sure that via some of the various hip hop sites I puroose some advertisers pulled out and the show is basically deaded?
If its not true tho..it would take?a substantial amount of black persons from ALL segments of society to denounce this show?. The thing is?BET?is not only a false moniker because its not owned by black people?but also a lot of its viewership isn?t black, and they along with eh millions of black people who would gladly subscribe to watching the show could generate an audience strong enough to renouce calls for its demise?

    3. Depends ?.
From a business stand point?.Hell No?every body ?.gawks at a car accident. Even tho I?ve only visited the hot ghetto mess site?ummm maybe 3 times in my life?when I did go ..i spent a significant amount of time there? HGM it?s a great money making proposition for his company and from that position only. I wouldn?t listen to the lady with a good cause ?

As a black man tho?. He should have ?Living Large? and “Bamboozled” ?nightmares on constant

I like the share holder sentiment?. the thing is this tho..?.. Share holders want money?so would it be a righteous share holder thing..

It is a solution tho?and intrigued the mind?..
