I woke up with the portion of the post on Lil B and Malcolm in my head.
“….Writing about Black men’s sexuality is important because sexuality is racism’s third rail. Sexual domination, violence and the threat of violence have all been tools to keep Black folks, women and Black women in check. An examination of sexuality, the language around sex can teach us a lot about ourselves.
Also, in the post “An You Even Licked My Balls: A Black Feminist Note on Nate Dogg” I argued that we need to interrogate how White men’s desires for certain images of Black men shapes the music that we consume. White suburban men and women singing “And You Even Licked My Balls” takes on a whole other connotation when we consider how segregated we live in the United States. Many White folks learn what they learn about Black people from the television. This makes Nate Dogg’s catalog take on a whole other significance.
I also know that I need to write this because as a Black woman who blogs about rap music, I unlike other rap bloggers am not interested in becoming friends with rappers or becoming beholden to a rap label. (Wait…some rappers do check for #allcity. Let’s be clear.) This free’s me up to say things that a rap blogger would NOT say, out of fear of sabotaging a relationship with a music label or an artist. I am beholden to myself as a writer and to my audience. Full stop.
I write this because I care about Black people in general and Black women in particular. I also write this because homophobia is a tool of sexism. Homophobia directed towards men, is rooted of the hatred of the “feminine” in men.

I also write this because I am concerned not just with the relations between Black folks and white folks, but between Black men and Black women as well. So when Lil B decides he is going to name his album “I’m Gay”, I pay attention. Especially given the influence that he has on young children, I will absolutely pay attention.
Being an artist or being a genius does not give a person a free reign to be greasy.”
More is coming. I need to read the Malcolm book and also collect the links to stuff that has been written about Lil B.
Thoughts?
Have you read the Malcolm book yet?

I’m intrigued, this is one of 3 topics I found interesting out of your list of possible future post.
While personally indifferent on others sexual choices, and being one who hates the usage of the word “Tolerant(ance)” because it contains a a level of disgust at particular actions just beneath its surface, I’m still beholden to worldly constructs that causes me to dislike prominent black male figures who publicly don’t regard themselves as gay,but display themselves as such via various forms or media.
Research meant to enlighten people with the closest exhibition of the known truth, such as with the relatively new Malcolm book, doesn’t bother me.
But
I would be lying if I didn’t say on some level, the utilization of the revelations, new to may, contained within that book, to besmirch Malcolm by some people bothers me.
For my condition has been conditioned on what a man is “supposed” to be, like everyone else in this nation.
Looking forward to the post.

What does this mean?

Why does an exploration of Malcolm’s sexuality and arguably his same sex desires, besmirch him?
Keep in mind this line “homophobia directed towards men is rooted of the hatred of the feminine in men.”

My bad on the delayed response (I need my jobs i.t department to stop blocking your site!)
When I say I’m still beholden to worldly constructs. I mean that in the sense that much the world still views effeminate/non masculine males males in a negative light, and admonishes those who don’t live up to general male ideals. I’m not ignorant enough to state or think every homosexual male is effeminate, and not knowledgeable enough to state even if most are, but i do know it is used to slander people. Personally, I feel rather it be by choice of genetic predisposition, I could care less if someone is gay, and wish them the best like anyone one else.
But
And I know I haft to grow on this, I hate when straight black males front or play as gay, because such imagery is super imposed on all of us, and utilized to disparage our manhood. I guess roughly speaking I’m perfectly fine with those living authentically, and take issue with those whose posturing is often manipulated
Also
I don’t feel the exploration of Malcolm’s sexuality besmirch’s him, I just happen to feel/know some people will use the information revealed or their conclusions based on the evidence provided,to discredit his work and legacy,
Crudely spoken I know, I’m nothing but a work in progress.
