Dear John Edwards, Poor People Don’t Elect Presidents.

Your boy’s tactics are suspect.

The poor doesn’t vote.
N*ggas too busy BEING POOR.

NEW ORLEANS — Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards kicked off his “Road to One America” anti-poverty tour here today with a “Good Morning America” Town Hall event. During the two-hour interview with Diane Sawyer and about 100 New Orleans residents, Edwards faced questions on everything from improving conditions for the working poor to the $400 haircuts he became famous for.

“Some lessons you learned the hard way. I’ve learned my lesson. I got a very cheap haircut a few days ago and I’m going to keep getting cheap hair cuts,” Edwards said to the laughing crowd.

But Edwards defended himself as a sincere advocate for the poor, pointing to his work in urban ministries in North Carolina before ever entering politics, and his help organizing unions and leading campaigns to raise the minimum wage over the years.

“I came from very little to having a lot. There’s no question about that,” he said. “I’m proud of the fact that I lived the American dream. Nobody gave it to me. Then a valsonindia.com buying tadalafil headache or a stomach ache can occur. Am I wrong ya’ll.

He has no chance on winning w/ this poverty sh*t.

The masses don’t care.

You gotta come at people on sh*t that they they are in invested
in. There has to be an incentive for being involved.

He is a smooth talker.

But I ain’t feeling the poverty campaign.

How about………..running on shit we can measure:
a. CHEAPER GAS! for folks. b. CHILD CARE for 100K families. c. Creating 10K more Nurses to replace the retiring boomers.
d. 10K Back in KatrinaVille in 5 years.

WE MEASURE WHAT WE THINK IS IMPORTANT.

I dunno there’s something about dude that reeks of *sleeper* candidate..I think he’s the “safest” option for the good ol’ boy network at the top who at the end of the day will make the final decision. I mean you got a black dude, a white woman and then there’s him..safest pick..but we’ll see how it all plays out.

Yeah he does play the poverty thing a lil tough..

Whether I look at it from the standpoint of sociology or the standpoint of the street (and I’ve been deep into both for a long time), I found that not only are you right that the poor don’t have time to be bothered, but more importantly many of them have internalized the idea that they’ve done something wrong somehow or that they just lost out because “that’s the way it’s always been and that’s the way it’ll always be.” They really resist learning that (1) it ain’t ALWAYS been like that and (2) it’s a set-up that could be counteracted by bringing down the Power.

Besides, I remember back when I was on welfare for five years, this one guy kept trying to get me to organize a welfare mother’s movement in Illinois (where I was). My immediate and final reaction: “You gotta be crazy! That’s the way I pay my rent.” And I already had a reputation as a national organizer in the prison abolition movement, so it wasn’t that I didn’t know how.

What would you think of an Obama/Edwards pair-up? That hadn’t occurred to me before, but I might be able to get behind that…

    No edwards.

    Too young looking.

    Not enough Experience.

    GORE has been VP.

    He lost that last election
and was VP for 8 YEARS.

    EDWARDS does not have this.

  8. Illaim says

While he ranks third on my i ( who I wish I could really vote for ) candidates seeking the democratic nomination list., and second in my (those who have a chance) of getting the nomination grouping, I hold dual respect and skeptisim about Edwards.

    That being said..

    You are being very harsh..

Part of the reason the poor don?t vote is ?..

Nobody gives a earnest effort to show they care about the poor and ..alas??downtrodden?

I hate to reference a horrible rapper?.but?. Rosco P Coldchain?.. had a video a few years back?.where he was driving a fake Bush through the hood giving him a sight seeing tour?and it made me think???When was the last the president. or a legitimate candidate came through to show concern for ?the least amongst us?

I mean fuck if they believe to hype. they still shouldn?t be shook they got Secret Service Protection.

If your living in poverty?..and you see a significant improvement from that circumstance. you can damn sure measure it .

Populist platforms have and can work, the mere fact that we?ve been hearing about homies $400 haircuts forever, and the walking demon Ann Coulter has been calling out his manhood like a 10th grad cipher, lends credence that there trying to get him out the way early before he picks up any steam.

I?ll agree with you the masses don?t care?? A certain element of the mass

A large portion of the polity does hold a great concern about there well being beyond gas prices, they just happen to think that most politicians don?t give a F*** about them, hence they don?t vote.

Issue voting is the gruel for some reason we always seem to devore.

If the masses see something tangable to grasp onto. maybe they might try to vote before the good ole G.O.P sics they forces upon thee.

  9. M.Dot. says

    @ neo.

    True Re-JFK.

    BUT.

YOU did not address that AL GORE ISSUES.

    1. The Supreme Court Debacle.
    2. His prior WH experience.
    3. All that Global Warming Shine.

    This is irrelevant.
People will TREAT YOU only how you let them.

    This goes for ALL AMERICANS.

And no President ever will unless he/she feels that they are accountable to people in the hood.

Populist platforms have and can work, the mere fact that we?ve been hearing about homies $400 haircuts forever, and the walking demon Ann Coulter has been calling out his manhood like a 10th grad cipher, lends credence that there trying to get him out the way early before he picks up any steam.

    I just think thats politics.
I will concede that he is a formidable candidate.
I just wouldn’t be running it on Katrina.

    I would choose:
    a. Loan Repayment forgiveness for college students.
    b. National Child care Effort
    c. Tax 500-1000 Tax Credit for families making $30-80K

A large portion of the polity does hold a great concern about there well being beyond gas prices, they just happen to think that most politicians don?t give a F*** about them, hence they don?t vote.

    I understand the rationale.
    Im from Oakland.
